Hamburg, Germany, 1979. Sixteen-year-old Rudi searches for meaning and direction as he befriends a prostitute, debates following his dreams of being a musician, and gets into increasingly dangerous mischief with his new friend, the wild and reckless Mario.

An engaging and comical coming-of-age story, Scanty & Swanky captures the struggles of adolescence as the protagonist Rudi confronts sex, substance abuse, and academic troubles. The script also captures the era through its use of music, evoking the world of 1979 Hamburg in a way that emphasizes the importance of music to Rudi.
